Eminem Almost Died

Posted under: Eminem, Rapper

With a new album coming out, Eminem is coming clean about what the music on his latest record means to him and how the word ‘Recovery’ is more than just a title. The rapper recently opened up about his fight with addiction saying “It took me awhile to admit I actually did have a problem. In the hip-hop world that I live in, it can be mistaken for weakness and the last thing you want to do in hip-hop is admit that you’re weak. But if I didn’t admit I was weak with this certain thing I was going to die.” While he managed to get clean, Eminem also says that he’s not sure how to advise other artists to do the same, saying “I don’t know how you avoid it. I mean, I could say the cliched things, make sure you stay on the right path, you make the right decisions in life. You know, fame is a funny thing, man, especially, you know, actors, musicians, rappers, rock singers, it’s kind of a lifestyle and it’s easy to get caught up in it – you go to bars, you go to clubs, everyone’s doing a certain thing… It’s tough.”

BET Honors Prince

Posted under: BET, Prince

Prince will be getting the honor of the Lifetime Achievement award at the BET Awards which are being held on June 27 with the network calling him a “genre smasher” and “virtuoso musician” as well as “one of the most emotional singers of all time”. I can definitely say that you won’t be hearing any arguments from me on those counts because I agree wholeheartedly! Prince definitely deserves it. The only thing I have to ask BET is why the heck did it take them such a long time to give him this award? He already deserved this award a decade ago!

Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard on Tour

Posted under: American Idol, Concert

Season two American Idol champion Ruben Studdard and his runner up Clay Aiken are going on tour together starting on July 23 in North Carolina to perform “renditions of classic hits from the past five decades.” Clay said “I couldn’t ask for a better tour mate. To be able to share the stage with him again is so exciting. He is such a talented artist. He inspires me daily and I think that respect and admiration will truly be reflected in our show.” Ruben adds “It is truly a blessing and an honor to be on the stage with my friend. The relationship that we have built over these past eight years will definitely translate into a great show for our fans. And I’m really looking forward to singing the timeless classics every night.” Both singers are probably psyched to have gotten a gig at all.

American Idol Elimination Results

The Top 11 singers of American Idol have sung, you’ve placed your votes and now the Top 10 has been revealed. Ryan Seacrest did a double reveal by saying that Paige Miles and Tim Urban were two of the bottom three this week. The two aspiring singers were also part of the bottom three last week. Performances by Miley Cyrus, Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato went down before the last member of the bottom three was revealed. Crappy performances from the Disney stars – Miley was pitchy and Joe and Demi had problems with their timing. Katie Stevens was then revealed to be in the bottom three but was also the first to be relieved.

Jill Scott and Maxwell on Tour

Posted under: Concert, Concert Tour, Maxwell

Jill Scott and Maxwell are going on tour together in the US. Their concerts will kick off in Cleveland on May 21 and will be making stops in 20 cities with more dates to be announced for June. The R&B singers will be stopping in Detroit, Indianapolis, Chicago, St. Louis, Seattle, Oakland, Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Miami, Washington DC, Philadelphia and New York. Both of them are incredible to see and hear live so if you’ve got the chance to catch them in concert, do so! I think they should even add more dates to their tour to give everyone a chance to catch them.

The Queen of Soul wants people to stop talking about the King of Pop’s alleged drug use

The Queen of Soul thinks we should reserve comments about the King of Pop’s drug use until after the full coroner’s report is released.

Aretha Franklin – who lived next door to the Jackson family in Encino, California, in the late 1970s and early 1980s – says: "Those are natural questions, but in fairness to him, we should wait for the coroner’s report and stop speculating."

The 67-year-old says she befriended Michael Jackson back in 1970 when she and her two sons met the Jackson 5 backstage at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

Franklin says of the singer, who was about 12: "I thought: ‘This little boy can really sing.’

"He liked James Brown and Jackie Wilson, especially his rendition of Doggin’ Around.

"He kind of emulated that. But when you listened to his albums, you knew he was an original and had things of his own coming from his heart."

Franklin lived next door to the Jacksons from 1979 to 1982 before she returned to Detroit.

She found the talented family to be "very intelligent and well mannered". Jackson, who was in his early 20s at the time, was, "quiet but still very precocious".

Franklin treasures those days with the superstar family, including a picture of the singer and his baby sister Janet taken under a tree in her garden when they came over for a swim.

She says she and her sons had a "super time" visiting Disneyland with Jackson. "He was very playful that day," she says.

"My son told me he kept sneaking up behind me like he was going to run into me."
