DMX Gets Six Months
Mar 19, 2010 DMX
DMX has been sentenced to six months behind bars for violating the terms of his probation. Although some reports claim that ‘Celebrity Rehab’ doctor Dr. Drew presented the judge with a letter requesting that the rapper be moved to his care, and the judge seemed receptive, it is unclear whether or not he’ll be battling his cocaine addiction for the world’s viewing pleasure. According to a Maricopa County Sheriff “He admitted to using cocaine, so he’s back in our jail. I think it’s about time to give him hard time. We do have a great drug prevention program in the jail, so if he stays in our jail system I will consider (letting) him go through our program.”

General Larry Platt Lawsuit
Mar 17, 2010 Rapper
General Larry Platt better get ready for war as he has been hit with a nasty lawsuit over the comedy song ‘Pants on the Ground’. A music company called American King Music claims that they funded the singer’s recent recording session with rapper/producer Mims for the official full-length version of the song. But in the suit, the company claims that Larry and his reps “failed to take care of Platt’s obligations” but didn’t specify what exactly those obligations are. American King is suing over the music distribution agreement and expenses related to producing, writing and recording of the song. Larry’s manager says that he never made a contract with American King though but the company thinks they’re entitled to 50% of the profits from the sale of the song on iTunes.

DMX Wanted on Celebrity Rehab
DMX was arrested last week for using illegal drugs and violating the terms of his probation, so like any fame seeker, the rapper used it as an excuse to reach out to Dr. Drew and try to land himself on the next season of ‘Celebrity Rehab’. Ask, and you shall receive. The reps from t reality show have contacted DMX and are considering sending someone to his next court hearing to speak with the judge about being placed in their care instead of going back to jail. I think he should just head to jail. Make him really pay for all of the wrong things he’s done.

Snoop Dogg Does Comedy
Mar 10, 2010 Snoop Dogg
Rapper Snoop Dogg is teaming up with comedian Mike Epps in a comedy stage show called ‘Imagine That!’ portraying former nightclub performers in jail who are trying to break out. Mike said “This is an incredible opportunity to combine our similar, but different worlds of entertainment together on stage for the first time.” Snoop added “We’ve worked together in the past on some projects and knew that our audiences would love to see us bring Hip-Hop music and Hip-Hop comedy together on stage.” The tour begins on April 27 at Harrah’s Rincon Casino in San Diego. Will you watch it?

Snoop Dogg is Welcome Back in the UK
Mar 8, 2010 Snoop Dogg
Snoop Dogg has won his legal battle to be allowed back in the UK after 3 years of being banned by the government. The rapper was arrested at London’s Heathrow airport back in 2006 and was denied entry back into the country after that due to his prior incidents involving drugs and firearms citing him as a threat. The ban was lifted in 2008 but officials appealed and reversed the decision. Snoop’s case was brought to officials last Friday with his lawyers wanting them to consider the rapper’s work as a high school football coach and appearing on family friendly shows when making their decision. Two senior immigration border authorities ruled in his favor so he can now return.

Diddy Has a Stalker
Mar 8, 2010 Diddy
35-year old Florida native Cemelia Green was arrested outside of Diddy’s East Hampton home a week ago after the crazy woman claimed to be the rapper’s wife. The woman, who reportedly had a history of mental illness, camped out in her car for a couple of days before embarking upon the music mogul’s residence. The police promptly arrested her at the scene and threw her into Suffolk County jail for trespassing and criminal mischief. Diddy’s stalker is being held on $5000 bail but I don’t really think anyone will be coughing up the money to bust her out. I almost want to feel sorry for her.

Soulja Boy Gets an Ego
Mar 5, 2010 Eminem, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Rapper, Soulja Boy
I think Soulja Boy is starting to get full of himself. The rapper is in the middle of putting some tracks together for his next album called ‘The DeAndre Way’. He has been fortunate enough to be able to get the help of some big name artists like Jay-Z, Eminem and Kanye West. According to Soulja Boy, Kanye gave him some pretty big compliments, saying “When I was in the studio, I played him a couple of joints, and then he just said, ‘Damn, he’s really starting to go hard.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, you feel me?’ … Out of all the artists to get the go-ahead or the co-sign from, it was Kanye.” I don’t buy it.

TI Re-Appears
Mar 2, 2010 Rap Music, Rapper, T.I.
Rapper TI recently stepped out with his fiancé Tameka Cottle to support her Alzheimer’s research fundraiser ‘For the Love of Our Fathers’ at Atlanta’s Opera venue. The rapper joined his beautiful girl on stage at the end of the evening and said “I am very well, very happy to be seen”. TI is still serving out the rest of his sentence for gun possession in a halfway house in Georgia. His manager also revealed that the rapper is working on both a new album and a film that are both due out at the end of summer. His manager talked about the album saying “He’s sounding beautiful. His spirit is really good. He’s got the eye of the tiger. There’s no theme as of yet. The sound is definitely not a bunch of samples.” It sounds like TI is getting back on track.

Eve Owes the Government
Feb 26, 2010 Eve
Another celebrity is trying to escape the tax collector as rapper Eve owes a whopping 357,000 big ones to the IRS after falling behind on income tax payments in 2008 and 2009. Four different liens have been filed against Eve. Two came from the IRS and two from the state of California. That’s not good at all especially since she doesn’t have much going on with her music career. Maybe she should line up more guest starring roles like she did for ‘Glee’. Where else is she going to get the money to pay the money she owes? I wonder who’s hiring?

Peaches is No Superstar
Electronic rapper Peaches had planned a very special concert where she would be performing the music of the musical ‘Jesus Christ: Superstar’ as a one woman show in Berlin. However, the German right holders to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s shows refused to give her permission to perform the music. Peaches went on her Twitter to talk about the project saying “[They] claim that this project is of no interest to them due to its unconventional form. It’s a shame that the authorities feel threatened by this fresh approach. I know a lot of people who really love the music and would appreciate this stripped-down solo performance. I have so much respect for the music and lyrics from the original score and this was my way of honouring that.”

Lil Wayne Lawsuit
Feb 22, 2010 Lil Wayne, Ringtones, Video
No one should be surprised anymore when you hear the name Lil Wayne and the word lawsuit in the same sentence. The rapper is getting sued by record producer Darius Harrison for $2.5 million. It seems that the producer and The Royalty Network are claiming they’re owed the money in unpaid royalties. Darius claims that they own the rights for the use of ‘Mrs. Officer’ on Lil Wayne’s 2008 CD ‘Tha Carter III’ and say that they own the rights to any profits that the rapper made due to the sale of ring tones, music videos and such. It’s not the first lawsuit of its kind and when it comes to Lil Wayne, I doubt it would be the last.

MC Hammer Lawsuit
Feb 18, 2010 Rapper
I wonder if Cash-4-Gold spokesman MC Hammer has extra cash lying around to pay off a lawsuit. The washed up rapper failed to follow through on a deal he had with the digital network communications firm PacketSwitch.com back in 2003, in which MC Hammer had agreed to “help market the company” with shares of the firm in return. PacketSwitch.com was reportedly awarded damages in 2003 but the rapper never paid up. MC Hammer claimed that the lawsuit was never delivered to him because the legal docs misspelled his last name. A US District Judge easily dismissed the claim and MC Hammer is finally being ordered to pay up.

Nas Raps About Kelis
Nas and Kelis are far from friends after their marriage of four years ended and it just escalated after the rapper was ordered by the court to pay $1000 per month to his baby mama for child support. Nas has finally broken his silence about the situation in a new, unreleased verse from his ‘Strong Will Continue’ collaboration song. He raps “How in the hell am I supposed to stay comfy/ When I pay child support, alimony monthly/ So I’ve stuck with some married women so fine, cheating while their husband rushing on the 40-yard line/ Wonder if this is what my ex did the whole time.” Burn!
Dr. Dre Lawsuit
Feb 16, 2010 Dr. Dre, Suge Knight
The war has been brewing for 14 years and now, Dr. Dre is finally ready to head out for battle. Sources are saying that the rapper is finally taking on Death Row Records with a lawsuit claiming that he has never seen a penny from his album ‘The Chronic’. He says that the stopped receiving money from the label once he left and that Death Row has been making a fortune by selling digital copies of ‘Chronic’, ‘Chronic Re-Lit’ and his greatest hits album without paying him anything. Now, Dr. Dre wants them to pay up. I find it quite interesting that he decides to sue the label when mogul Suge Knight is no longer on board.

Kid Cudi Apologizes
Feb 16, 2010 Concert Gig, Kid Cudi
Kid Cudi has finally apologized to the guy that he allegedly socked at a concert last year. The rapper even had the gall to blame the whole thing on alcohol. Michael Sharpe, the guy who claimed that Kid Cudi’s fist connected with his face during a December concert in Vancouver, told reporters that the rapper called him up last week to finally apologized and blamed the whole incident on having had drank so much. In order to make up for what happened, Michael also said that Kid Cudi offered to fly him out to New York for an all-expenses paid weekend. Nothing is set in stone yet though.

Drake Loves the Environment
Hip hop superstar Drake is going on a college tour beginning in April and will be promoting eco-friendly technology, teaming up with The Campus Connection Tour. During the tour, the rapper/singer will be using biodegradable materials both on his tour bus and backstage as well as making sure the dressing room accommodations and meals are all environmentally-conscious. That’s a pretty good idea. Maybe other artists will follow suit. It takes one influential person to inspire others. Let’s hope Drake’s message will reach a lot of other people who will follow suit. It’s for the greater good of people and our earth.
50 Cent Challenges Jay-Z
I wonder if 50 Cent is sad because nobody cares what he’s up to and he wants attention. He already complained about how Chace Crawford was prettier than him last week and now the rapper is bashing Jay-Z. 50 said “Jay-Z’s not smart enough to be afraid of me. We’re big rivals. If it ever came to an actual altercation he’d know what it’s like to be afraid.” I guess he didn’t realize just how stupid he sounded when he said that. As if Jay-Z would back off from that challenge. Maybe 50 is jealous. That’s the only explanation that can be given.

Lil Wayne Expected to Bomb
Feb 8, 2010 Lil Wayne
Lil Wayne’s ‘Rebirth’ album dropped last week and it’s looking to bring in just 140,000 to 150,000 in its first week sales. While that’s not too shabby for some artists, compared to the rapper’s 2008 ‘Tha Carter III’ that brought in $1 million during the first week, that’s a major drop in sales. It seems that nothing could go right with Lil Wayne these days. After having the release of his album pushed back several times, lack luster sales and then having to go to prison on Tuesday for felony gun possession, life is turning up to suck a lot for the rapper.
50 Cent is No Longer the Ladies Man
Feb 5, 2010 50 Cent
Chace Crawford apparently got way more female attention on the set of his upcoming movie ‘Twelve’ much to the dismay of his co-star 50 Cent. The rapper turned actor explains “I made a fool of myself the first day of shooting. I got to my trailer and I saw this huge crowd of girls screaming. I stopped and was kind of having a moment. Then I turned around, and Chace was behind me, and that’s who they were freaking out for. I remember thinking, ‘What kind of bull—– is this?’” Sorry 50. I guess all those girls wanted the younger and hotter of the two stars of the movie.

Usher is Next Michael Jackson
Feb 5, 2010 Jay-Z, Michael Jackson, Usher
No one could ever fill the shoes of Michael Jackson as the King of Pop in my eyes but Jay-Z seems to think differently. The rapper has already made his nomination for the late singer’s successor – Usher. Jay-Z claims that the R&B crooner has the potential to be the next global superstar, based off the tribute that he did to Michael during the Grammys. The rapper said “I thought the Michael Jackson tribute was fantastic and I thought Usher was doing a magnificent job. I think he’s one of the guys that’s in line to, you know, fill those huge shoes. I don’t wanna put that pressure on him, but I think he’s one of the guys that’s in line to do that.” I couldn’t agree less!
