Growing up around and being one of the rappers to make rap music about issues that matter, Ice T is disappointed with the direction that most hip hop artists are taking their music. In a recent interview, the veteran rapper said “I want to see some little motherf**kers get together like a Public Enemy and give these fools a wake up call like, ‘F**k this jewelry and cars bulls**t,’ and bring it back to Armageddon! Don’t get it twisted – the people that are making music now, I’m not mad at them. People think I’m mad at pop music [but] I’m not. I’m just saying the conscious music is lacking. There’s no roots… Where are those kids that are gonna come out and really push the envelope? N.W.A did F**k tha Police, we were going hard, we were getting arrested...Read More

After a three-year hiatus from the rap world, Lil Mama is finally making a comeback this year. The 21-year old rapper from New York City has just premiered a music video for the never before heard track called “Scrawberry” via her YouTube page. Is it safe to assume that she’s planning to release a mix tape soon? Anyway, the song samples Special Ed’s “I Got it Made” and its music video was directed by Phil Lee. According to its description on YouTube, Lil Mama “pays homage to one of her role models, the legendary MC Lyte.” The video looks fun and creative, and I like it. I kind of like the song too. It’s not bad at all.

Selena Gomez will be hosting this year’s VMA pre-show. During which, Nicki Minaj will show the world a special preview of the music video for “Fly”, her collaboration with Rihanna. In January, we got to see a teaser picture of the video shoot via the Barbadian R&B singer’s Twitter but it was the rapper’s “Super Bass” visual that ended up being dropped first. Now, it seems that “Fly” is coming right up. I’m sure the first look into the video will only add to the big night that Nicki will have as she’s nominated for three VMAs including Best Rap Video.Read More
Drake has a new song out called “Headlines”. The track, which was produced by Matthew Samuels and Noah Shebib, will serve as the official lead single from the hip hop singer’s sophomore album called “Take Care”, which hits stores on October 24th. Drake is back just one year after releasing his debut opus “Thank Me Later” which went platinum in the US. I love “Headlines”. The song has a simple production but Drake’s rap verses are definitely fire. This is another epic from Drake and I’m sure it will be a big hit for him. Check it out and see what I mean.

Wiz Khalifa has released another freebie for all his fans via Twitter. The rapper will make you flight high in the groovy track called “Weed Brownies”, which again features Big Sean and Curren$y. It’s now pretty obvious that this song and the one released prior, called “Flowers”, will be included in the three rap artists’ upcoming collaborative mix tape. I loved “Flowers” and I’ve also fallen in love with “Weed Brownies”. I think only Wiz can put that title on a song, can pull it off and be completely cool about it. It’s a great track and I certainly enjoyed listening to it.

Olly Murs has recently premiered the official first single to come off of his second studio album. The track is called “Heart Skips a Beat” and features UK rap duo Rizzle Kicks. It looks like the double platinum certification of the singer’s self-titled debut album and the two Top 5 hits it produced were more than enough reasons for Simon Cowell’s Syco Music label to give Olly’s second album the go signal. “Heart Skips a Beat” isn’t a bad song. I actually think that the start of it is great and the whole reggae meets old-school hip hop style of the music is cool.Read More
British rapper Tinie Tempah is looking to keep up the success that he garnered in the US with his single “Written in the Stars” by releasing a new song called “Til I’m Gone”, which features fellow rap artist Wiz Khalifa. The Stargate production is already available for purchase on the US iTunes and will hit mainstream radio on July 12. But before that, Tinie has already premiered the official music video of the track. The song is great and the video only adds to that. I really like the last scenes with the lighted city views. Tinie has definitely made his mark on the US music scene and it doesn’t look like it’s going to fade any time soon.

When Jennifer Lopez premiered her latest music video “I’m Into You” last week, I was left wondering where Lil Wayne was considering that he was a featured rapper on the song. It turns out that while JLo was frolicking the beaches of Mexico, Lil Wayne was at home, sitting on his couch. The rap artist couldn’t be part of the video due to the conditions of his probation prohibiting him to travel out of the country, even for work. However, there’s a new video out featuring Lil Wayne, all thanks to a generous product placement fee offered up by Koma. You can see JLo holding it at the top of the original video.

Diddy-Dirty Money recently premiered their new music video for “Ass on the Floor”. The Collin tiley-directed clip has a wintry theme with the two ladies trying to maintain the sexiness despite the cold temperatures while the rap mogul plays his normal self. The song’s producer Swizz Beatz also makes a cameo in the video. “Ass on the Floor” is Diddy-Dirty Money’s brand new single which is part of the upcoming dual release the hip hop trio has in their hands. The other song will be “Looking for Love” featuring R&B singer Usher. The video for that has already been shot with a debut pending.

Rapper Ja Rule will spend two years in jail after pleading guilty today (Monday) to gun charges. The hip-hop star was arrested in July 2007 with a loaded .40 pistol in his Mercedes-Benz Maybach car in New York City. He had just left a ‘Lil Wayne & Friends’ concert in the city – the same night that Lil Wayne was also arrested on weapons charges of his own. Ja Rule, whose real name is Jeffrey Atkins, pleaded guilty to attempted weapon possession just before his trial was about to start. “This isn’t a good day, fellas,” Atkins, 34, said as he left Manhattan Supreme Court following his guilty plea. The rapper, whose last album came out in 2005, will reappear in court on February 9 to schedule a sentencing date...Read More
