Rapper Soulja Boy cancelled a gig last December and allegedly didn’t pay anyone back the money that he was paid for to do it. He was paid a $16,250 advance fee to secure the date and also owes another $3500 for bus transportation to the event and another $8000 for television and radio commercials to promote it. TrinCity chief Joseph Sheldon Brewster has filed a lawsuit against Soulja Boy and he blames Interscope Records and MySpace Music for stopping the concert and then not paying a promised $10,000 to make up for the advertising costs on time. Brewster claims it’s a breach of contract and unjust enrichment. However, I find it unfair that he’s suing for $1 million instead of asking to get paid back with additional damages. I wonder how this will play out.
Rihanna recently called into DJ Lil Cee’s afternoon show on New York City’s 92.3 NOW FM where the R&B/pop singer discussed about how the “S&M” remix collaboration with Britney Spears came out. After a not so nice question from the radio show presenter, Rihanna defended Britney from criticism that she sounded horrible on the remix. Rihanna said “People also say it’s dynamic and it’s #1 on iTunes right now.” She also said that Britney brought her A-game on the remix and that the pop star did her absolute best. Pop stars stick together! Like the remix or hate it, you can’t deny the sales.
50 Cent had some things to say about DJ Mister Cee, who was recently arrested for public display of a lewd act. The rapper isn’t supporting the radio personality’s actions but rather coming to the defense to support Cee being caught with a man. 50 Cent said “It’s only entertaining because he means that much to hip-hop culture. I recognize Mister Cee as the guy who offered us Biggie, so he means that much to the culture. And a lot of the kids that hear the radio don’t see him the same way.” He also spoke of the gay community saying “Who is to judge you when there’s an audience — that is probably one of the strongest audiences, if you look at Lady Gaga’s career — that says that that’s fine? If you say it’s not fine, you’re gonna get attacked. You’re gonna write apology notes.” That’s right. Focus on the law being broken and not what the sex the person was who broke it with him.
Kelly Rowland recently premiered her brand new lead single from her upcoming third studio album. The new track is called “Motivation” and features rapper Lil Wayne. Shockingly enough, it’s not an up tempo cut. Kelly delivers some sexy vocals throughout the synth-laced ballad. The song’s lyrics along with the R&B singer’s vocals are hot but I don’t think the song will go anywhere on the charts. I think Kelly should have stuck to her dance pop sound. “Motivation” is good but it’s not radio friendly. For a lead single, this one is bound to be a flop. Here’s to hoping she releases another single quickly.

Keshia Chante has recently premiered a new single called “Set You Free”. The new track comes off of the Canadian singer’s upcoming studio album “Night & Day” which is due out in the Spring of 2011. The Taio Cruz-written track is the second pop release from Keshia, after “Table Dancer” which managed to peak at number 44 on Canada’s Hot 100. I think “Set You Free” can top that as it’s a catchier song and is more radio-friendly. It also has an electro-pop and trance music mixed beat and some heavy synths. It has potential to become a hit for Keshia but only with the right promotion.

Backstreet Boys member Brian Littrell claims that there’s one big difference between band mate AJ McLean’s current stint in rehab and his last one. And that is no one forced him to get help this time. Brian recently went on Bob 93.3 in North Carolina, telling the radio host “I’m proud that he would go into this situation willingly … Last time it was a lot worse. He really went into rehab unwillingly the last time.” According to the singer, AJ decided to commit to rehab over a month ago while the band was on the road. Hopefully, this would be AJ’s last stint in rehab.
Raphael Saadiq recently premiered the music video for his song “Radio”. The track is the lead single taken from his upcoming fifth studio album called “Stone Rollin’”, which is set to hit stores on March 22. The 50’s inspired clip got its world premiered via RollingStone.com. “Radio” is a catchy funky/retro soul tune that everyone’s bound to love. The video is really nice as well. It catches the whole vibe of the music and portrays the “radio” message in a fun and very artistic visual. If you missed Raphael, you’re bound to catch a lot of him soon as he plans to return to the music scene with his solo career full time.

Taio Cruz has recently debuted the music video for his song “Higher”. The song is the new international single from the R&B singer’s “Rockstarr” album. The new mix also features pop diva Kylie Minogue. It’s a clever move for Taio as Kylie makes the song more interesting and will surely secure more radio plays from other countries including Australia and the UK. As for the video, it’s not bad but I’m quite sure that they could have done a lot better. While Kylie looked amazing in the clip, it was too safe. They could have easily made this thing hot but they completely missed the mark.

Willow Smith is quickly becoming a star with the release of her song and video ‘Whip My Hair’. The 9-year old singer has even been making the rounds on shows to promote her music. Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s daughter was recently on Power 105.1’s radio show, where she was asked about who she would love to collaborate with in the future. Willow said “[Somebody] I would really want to work with on a song would be Lady Gaga. She is amazing! She’s just so amazing, she’s a free person. She’s a free girl, baby.” Would you like to see these two pop stars get together for a song?
Rihanna has joined the Kodak team as its newest spokesperson. The 22-year old Barbadian R&B singer follows in the footsteps of Drake, Trey Songz and Pitbull in representing So Kodak’s campaign to promote the brand’s Easyshare digital cameras. Rihanna commented on her new gig saying “I am excited to team up with Kodak on this project. I am an avid fan of photography and love taking pictures, so this was a natural fit for me. Being on tour, traveling around the world, I have so many cool moments that I have captured on my camera.” Rihanna and the rest of the guys will be featured on national TV spots, radio, online advertising and social media platforms.
