GLAAD and other LGBT groups spoke out against MTV VMA winner Tyler the Creator’s new album and I was pretty sad to hear all the facts about the anti-gay album. The rapper has responded to the widespread public criticism, saying “Well, I have gay fans and they don’t really take it offensive, so I don’t know. If it offends you, it offends you…If you call me a n—a, I really don’t care, but that’s just me, personally. Some people might take it the other way; I personally don’t give a sh–. I’m not homophobic. I just think ‘f***ot’ hits and hurts people. It hits. And ‘gay’ just means you’re stupid. I don’t know, we don’t think about it, we’re just kids. We don’t think about that s**t. But I don’t hate gay people. I don’t want anyone to think I’m homophobic...Read More

In a surprise performance, Jay-Z and Kanye West took to the stage at the 2011 MTV VMAs at Nokia Theatre LA Live in Los Angeles this past Sunday to perform their song “Otis”. Do I even have to say how amazing this performance is? The mere fact that you have these two hip hop moguls collaborating and then seeing them perform live is just surreal. It’s like a clash of the titans but in a really good way. These two have really revived my interest in hip hop, which is funny since I’m really not their biggest fans when they’re on their own. But together, they are magic.

Lil Wayne recently premiered the music video for “How to Love” exclusively via MTV Jams as “Jam of the Week”. With the song currently sitting at the #6 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100, this video premiere and the upcoming VMA performance, the rapper may be in the fight for the top spot very soon. As for the video, I did not expect it at all. It’s a strong and powerful visual that’s very touching. It’s about a woman who goes through a difficult life, from working as a stripper to prostitution to contracting HIV. It’s just awe-inspiring. I give mad props to whoever came up with the concept.

Kanye West and Jay-Z recently premiered the official music video for their latest single “Otis” via MTV. The track is the second single off of the rappers’ collaborative studio album “Watch the Throne”, which is on its way to surpassing the 500,000 units sold in its debut week. The song samples Otis Redding’s “Try a Little Tenderness” and makes the track sound like an old school hip hop hit. As for the video, which was directed by Spike Jonze, it sees Kanye and Jay-Z performing a massacre on a Maybach and turning it into a monster turbo machine. The rappers along with a few models have fun riding it and rapping their verses in front of a huge wall with a print of the US flag...Read More
Lupe Fiasco recently premiered the music video for “Words I Never Said” on MTV. The Skylar Grey-assisted track is the official second single from the rapper’s latest album “Lasers”. Alex Da Kid has done it once again with his collaborative productions and gave Lupe a winner for a song. Skylar’s vocals are simply stunning. It’s about time that he started promoting this. As for the visual, it fits the controversial political and socioeconomic topics in Lupe’s song really well, which pretty much says that it’s a great video. I loved it. Check it out and tell me what you think.

Jennifer Hudson took the stage at the 2011 Nickelodeon Upfront Presentation which was held at New York City’s Jazz at Lincoln Center yesterday. The 29-year old singer/actress, who performed her latest single “Where You At”, also sang alongside famous singer/songwriter Rafael Saadiq. In other news, Jennifer recently talked with MTV about her son David Otunga Jr., saying “He’s very musical. He just loves music overall, and he’s into it. I feel like I had a little Michael Jackson. He’d be in the backseat of the car, [moving] his little shoulder to anything that comes on the radio, and then I turn around like, ‘What are you doing?’” That’s so cute.Read More
Nicki Minaj’s homeland of Trinidad and Tobago has been accused of spending over $869,000 (US$139,782) on a concert featuring the rapper last month. The concert, which was also featured on the MTV documentary “My Time Now”, was held to launch the Ministry’s Localize It campaign but it does not explain the cash they shelled out. unfortunately, not as many people came out as expected because the tickets were so expensive. If the government was not accused of denying funding to youth organizations because of the cost of the concert, then this was just a mistake. But it’s apparently not the case. I hope it was worth it.Read More
TI recently premiered the music video for his song “No Mercy” via MTV. The song is the title track of the rapper’s upcoming album which is in stores now. The track is said to be a promo single that was released through iTunes last with the official next single being the Christina Aguilera-assisted “Castle Walls”. I personally like “No Mercy” the song with its obvious personal meaning to TI. It’s a good thing that he was smart enough to tape several videos before he went back into prison. I wonder if he also shot the video for “Castle Walls” too.

Kanye West has had a pretty rough two weeks. After his intense interview on the Today Show with Matt Lauer and then going on Twitter about his disappointment with the show’s decision to run clips of him interrupting Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, the rapper cancelled his upcoming Today Show performance in protest against the show. Now, the media trainer Kanye hired to help him with the interview in the first place has quit. When Susie Arons was hired, she actually tried to get him to cancel the interview but Kanye decided to go ahead with it at the last minute. Unfortunately, the interview was an epic fail. Susie quit just days later.
