A troubled man named Jeff Choi is currently under psychiatric evaluation in Los Angeles after he allegedly threatened to shoot Ne-Yo in the head following a series of other threats he made against Sony Music Entertainment execs, including Clive Davis. Choi made the threats because he believes that Sony has been releasing songs about him without getting his permission first. He actually wanted $800,000 in return for the safety of everyone but instead, Sony contacted the FBI so now he’s in a mental health facility and is being prosecuted for the alleged threats. Sony has also filed a restraining order against Choi.

In a surprise performance, Jay-Z and Kanye West took to the stage at the 2011 MTV VMAs at Nokia Theatre LA Live in Los Angeles this past Sunday to perform their song “Otis”. Do I even have to say how amazing this performance is? The mere fact that you have these two hip hop moguls collaborating and then seeing them perform live is just surreal. It’s like a clash of the titans but in a really good way. These two have really revived my interest in hip hop, which is funny since I’m really not their biggest fans when they’re on their own. But together, they are magic.

The 2011 BET Awards took place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles this past Sunday night. The ceremony, which was hosted by Kevin Hart, recognizes the work of African-Americans in the music, acting, sports and other fields of entertainment every year. Focusing on the music scene, the 2011 edition saw performances by Beyonce (which was taped from Glastonbury), Mary J Blige, Alicia Keys with Bruno Mars, Rick Ross, DJ Khaled, Chris Brown, Trey Songz, Kelly Rowland and more. I have to say that Kelly absolutely killed her performance though I think she jacked Janet Jackson’s look from way back.

When tickets for Janet Jackson’s April 14 concert in Los Angeles went on sale this past Friday morning, tickets ended up getting sold out within 10 minutes. A spokesman for Live Nation said that they had to add another date for April 15 to keep up with the demand. The Number Ones, Up Close and Personal Tour is the pop singer’s first tour since 2008’s Rock Witchu Tour, which had several problems due to poor ticket sales. If the LA dates were anything to go by, Janet’s upcoming tour shouldn’t have any problems. It just goes to show that Janet still has what it takes.

The Black Eyed Peas rocked out on stage at the 2010 American Music Awards held at the Nokia Theatre LA Live in Los Angeles this past Sunday. The hip hop band gave a fun glow in the dark performance of their new song “This Time (The Dirty Bit)”, which samples the classic song “The Time of My Life”. I was loving the light up cube heads on the back up dancers. If there was an award for most memorable performance of the night, I would have to give it to these guys. They always come up with the most outrageous things that you can’t help but love them.

A source close to Mariah Carey is not only claiming that the singer is in fact pregnant with hubby Nick Cannon but that the couple is expecting a baby boy. As for the reason for all the secrecy, the pop singer and diva extraordinaire is reportedly suspicious, worried about her age and had to go under fertility treatment to conceive. Mariah is said to make the announcement while promoting her new album ‘Merry Christmas II You’. The insider says “She’s having a boy, but the reason that Mariah didn’t want to say anything is because she is 40, and she’s superstitious. But she’s going to appear on Oprah and The View, so she’s planning on making the announcement soon. They haven’t decided whether they’ll raise the baby in New York or Los Angeles. The fertility drugs were the reason for her weight gain earlier this year. She stopped drinking back in March or April this year.”

TI is in a very fast downward spiral as the rapper has been ordered to appear before a federal judge in Atlanta to defend why his probation shouldn’t be revoked because of his most recent arrest in Los Angeles. The rapper is being tried for three possible violations of his bond, namely possession of ecstasy on September 1, testing positive for opiates on September 2 and associating with Cortez Thomas, a convicted felon, on September 1. The drugs were discovered in TI’s car after he was pulled over for doing an illegal U-turn. It’s a tough break for him. I wonder how long he’ll be in jail this time around because I just can’t see any way for him to avoid it.

An American Airlines flight left Miami for Los Angeles earlier this week with one of the many passengers in first class being Rihanna. The R&B singer was heading back home after some fun times in South Beach. Sources had spotted the Barbadian babe partying it up after her concert at the Cameo nightclub until 4AM, with the plane scheduled to leave at 8:30AM. It shouldn’t have been a surprise that Rihanna was snoozing before the plane even took off. By the time they were in the air, she was snoring pretty loudly. Needless to say, the 21 other first class passengers weren’t so happy.
