Tyler the Creator Talks About LGBT Criticism

GLAAD and other LGBT groups spoke out against MTV VMA winner Tyler the Creator’s new album and I was pretty sad to hear all the facts about the anti-gay album. The rapper has responded to the widespread public criticism, saying “Well, I have gay fans and they don’t really take it offensive, so I don’t know. If it offends you, it offends you…If you call me a n—a, I really don’t care, but that’s just me, personally. Some people might take it the other way; I personally don’t give a sh–. I’m not homophobic. I just think ‘f***ot’ hits and hurts people. It hits. And ‘gay’ just means you’re stupid. I don’t know, we don’t think about it, we’re just kids. We don’t think about that s**t. But I don’t hate gay people. I don’t want anyone to think I’m homophobic.” No matter how you try to defend it, I don’t really see how it’s okay to say the word “fa—ot” 213 times in an album. Even Eminem wasn’t that bad.

New Video from Eminem – Lighters

The hip hop duo Bad Meets Evil, comprised of rappers Eminem and Royce da 5’9, has premiered the music video for their latest single “Lighters” via VEVO. The Bruno Mars-assisted track is pretty hot on the charts right now, staying within the Top 10 on US iTunes and has peaked at #5 on Billboard’s Hot 100. As for the video, I liked it. It’s pretty basic and nothing to be all excited about. I loved the ending with all the lights in the air though. But honestly, this was underwhelming considering the beautiful message of this song. It definitely could have been better.

Eminem Named King of Hip Hop

Following their crowning of Lady Gaga as the Queen of Pop, Rolling Stone magazine has now named Eminem as the King of Hip Hop. A lot of fans have taken to their Twitter accounts to express both their agreement and disappointment since. Based on numbers and a bunch of categories in which those numbers are calculated (sales, Grammys, followers, Billboard presence, airtime play, etc), the facts are the facts. Rolling Stone even has all of the charts and math drawn out, category by category, for anyone who refuses to believe it. Coming in second place to Eminem was Lil Wayne. Drake, Kanye West and Jay-Z rounded out the top 5. Interestingly enough, Nicki Minaj, the only woman on the Kings list, placed number 6. Congratulations to Eminem!

Eminem Performs at Lollapalooza

Eminem put on a show to remember this past weekend during his live set at Lollapalooza in Chicago. For this one occasion, the rapper was joined by a few collaborators, namely Bruno Mars and Skylar Grey, to perform their hit collaborations “Lighters” and “I Need a Doctor” respectively. Eminem also performed his hit “Love the Way You Lie” sans Rihanna for the 90,000 concertgoers. He also did an amazing medley consisting of a cover of BoB’s “Airplanes”, “Sing for the Moment” and his classic “Stan”. The only thing that would have made that performance better was if Dido was there. Overall, Eminem’s set was fantastic!

“Eminem is dead!”

Perhaps the biggest scam messages via email with the message”Yahoo closes,” so far is the news that Eminem is dead. The mail has a virus attached to it, in executable format, and describes how the famous rapper’s life ended. But it is only the scam of one (or more) malicious hackers. Hackers who send these messages are using a well known television station’s address to send a dangerous virus for PCs. These false messages spread in recent days with enviable speed and managed to cause doubts about Eminem’s life. If you receive such a message in your e-mail, ignore it!

Eminem, the first artist in the USA who sold one million digital albums

“Recovery”, the album released by Eminem in 2010, became the first album sold in more than one million copies in the USA, according to statistics made by Nielsen Sound Scan. Including the standard format CDs Eminem’s album was sold in 3,9 million copies. Paul Rosenberg, the artist’s spokesman declared that over the years they paid a lot of attention to online fans and this brought a lot of satisfaction to them. Nielsen Sound Scan is a system used to monitor music sales in USA and Canada, and it is used to create Billboard charts.

Cee-Lo Green Billboard Awards Performance

Cee-Lo Green took the stage to perform at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards, which was held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas this past Sunday. The 36-year old hip hop singer performed a medley of his hit songs including “Crazy”, “Bright Lights Big City” and “Forget You”. During his performance, Cee-Lo’s piano and chair flew through the air doing flips and turns, including a 360 degree turn. I was in awe the whole time. I’m pretty sure I looked stupid with my jaw hanging. Plus, I’m a big fan of his music so seeing him perform is always a great thing for me.
