Mar 9, 2010 Beyonce, Etta James, Singer
Beyonce unveiled the Beyonce Cosmetology Center at the Phoenix House in Brooklyn, New York last Friday. The 28-year old singer’s new center will offer a residential substance abuse treatment program that will teach men and women how to prepare for a career in cosmetology. This isn’t the first time that the R&B diva has worked with the Phoenix House charity. According to Forbes, Beyonce donated her acting salary from her 2008 film ‘Cadillac Records’ to the non-profit organization. In the film, Beyonce played iconic singer Etta James who struggled with drug addiction in the past. It’s obviously a cause that’s near and dear to her heart.

Halle Berry Talks Rihanna
Nov 25, 2009 Chris Brown, Rihanna
Halle Berry is no stranger to domestic abuse, having dealt with the abuse against her mother by her father, as well as an abusive relationship in the past. That being said, the actress shared some thoughts on the incident between Rihanna and Chris Brown. Halle said “Recently, Rihanna stepped forward and obviously she had an issue with domestic violence. She was able to get away which isn’t often the easiest thing. Any time a woman frees herself from that kind of bondage and that kind of situation I’m proud.” In related news, Halle recently helped launch photographer Mark Liddell’s book ‘Exposed: 10 Years in Hollywood’, in which some of the proceeds will go towards the Jenesse Center, a domestic violence organization.

Jun 11, 2009 Queen Latifah
In a recent interview, Queen Latifah opened up for the first time about being a victim of childhood sexual abuse. The actress and singer mentioned that a teenage babysitter preyed on her as a child which manifested into difficulties with her adult relationships. Latifah shared in the new issue of Essence “He violated me. I never told anybody. I just buried it as deeply as I could and kept people at an arms length. I never really let a person get too close to me. I could have been married years ago, but I had a commitment issue.” It was very brave of her to share this now.
