The front man from the White Stripes and the successful rapper seem to have discovered each other artistically. This is what Jack White related about teaming up with Jay-Z: “I just did a record with Jay-Z. We did a song together a few weeks ago. It was incredible. I played him something that I’ve been kicking around for a while and he immediately came out with words for it. It’s unbelievable-sounding.” What a dynamic duo… they’re like Batman and Robin, but better. Of course there will be some debate with regards to who will be the sidekick and who will be the hero, but they’ll probably sort it out eventually.

Rappers Turn Stylists

Rappers Method Man and Redman will be giving away free haircuts on Easter as a part of Staten Island barbershop Against Da’ Grain’s free kids cuts day. Neighborhood kids under the age of 12 will be able to have their hair done by the former members of the Wu-Tang Clan and Def Squad, free of charge to look their Sunday best on the holy day. While it sounds like it’s for a good thing, the gig sounds even worse than an American Idol reject grabbing whatever gig they can get. How could those two let go of their careers just like that?

DMX Gets Six Months

DMX has been sentenced to six months behind bars for violating the terms of his probation. Although some reports claim that ‘Celebrity Rehab’ doctor Dr. Drew presented the judge with a letter requesting that the rapper be moved to his care, and the judge seemed receptive, it is unclear whether or not he’ll be battling his cocaine addiction for the world’s viewing pleasure. According to a Maricopa County Sheriff “He admitted to using cocaine, so he’s back in our jail. I think it’s about time to give him hard time. We do have a great drug prevention program in the jail, so if he stays in our jail system I will consider (letting) him go through our program.”

Alicia Keys at the World Cup

It looks like the boys from the FIFA World Cup Kick-off Celebration have really got themselves quite the concert planned. Not only will Alicia Keys be there, but also Shakira and Black Eyed Peas. The concert will take place on the 10th of June in South Africa. Former soccer player Lucas Radebe said the following about the epic concert: “Music and sports are the lifeblood of African culture, so to combine those in this historic event will be a true celebration of Africa.” Right… nothing more traditional than having Shakira and the Black Eyed Peas singing for the nation… real African spirit right there and they managed to drag Alicia Keys into it too. Is this about football or the ticket sales because at this point it’s a bit hard to tell?

50 Cent is getting into dance music

And it’s not just for his own entertainment, no, 50 Cent is planning of taking his own music into the new and bold direction. It looks like touring Europe really did a number on him so he’s decided that he might want to expand his horizons a bit. This is what 50 Cent said on the matter: I won’t allow myself to be placed in a box where I can only do one style, or do one kind of music. They should expect the unexpected on this one. If they can understand how I enjoy different genres of music and different styles, for the people who have various tastes in music, they’ll really like it.” Yes, because there is something so utterly diverse and unique about dance music. 50 Cent’s diamonds must be selling really cheap these days.

Jill Scott and Maxwell on Tour

Jill Scott and Maxwell are going on tour together in the US. Their concerts will kick off in Cleveland on May 21 and will be making stops in 20 cities with more dates to be announced for June. The R&B singers will be stopping in Detroit, Indianapolis, Chicago, St. Louis, Seattle, Oakland, Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Miami, Washington DC, Philadelphia and New York. Both of them are incredible to see and hear live so if you’ve got the chance to catch them in concert, do so! I think they should even add more dates to their tour to give everyone a chance to catch them.

General Larry Platt Lawsuit

General Larry Platt better get ready for war as he has been hit with a nasty lawsuit over the comedy song ‘Pants on the Ground’. A music company called American King Music claims that they funded the singer’s recent recording session with rapper/producer Mims for the official full-length version of the song. But in the suit, the company claims that Larry and his reps “failed to take care of Platt’s obligations” but didn’t specify what exactly those obligations are. American King is suing over the music distribution agreement and expenses related to producing, writing and recording of the song. Larry’s manager says that he never made a contract with American King though but the company thinks they’re entitled to 50% of the profits from the sale of the song on iTunes.

Ashley Cole feels threatened by will.i.am

It seems that Cheryl Cole’s former husband finally found somebody else to blame for the fact that his marriage ended. Ashley Cole apparently has a bone to pick with will.i.am because of the fact that the singer from Black Eyed Peas apparently admitted at some point that he had a thing for Cheryl Cole. A source related the following on the matter: “Will.I.Am’s comments about his wife are not news or a surprise to Ashley. He and Cheryl rowed about it last year. She’s done absolutely nothing wrong but Ashley’s sick of this man openly making advances toward his missus.” Well, though for him Cheryl Cole’s technically not his anymore… so will.i.am’s time to act, if ever, is now. Too bad he didn’t make his move when Cheryl Cole was still getting along with Ashley Cole… it would’ve been a nice addition to his music “borrowing” record.

DMX Wanted on Celebrity Rehab

DMX was arrested last week for using illegal drugs and violating the terms of his probation, so like any fame seeker, the rapper used it as an excuse to reach out to Dr. Drew and try to land himself on the next season of ‘Celebrity Rehab’. Ask, and you shall receive. The reps from t reality show have contacted DMX and are considering sending someone to his next court hearing to speak with the judge about being placed in their care instead of going back to jail. I think he should just head to jail. Make him really pay for all of the wrong things he’s done.

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon want to star in comedy together

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon say they want to star in a comedy together.

The Precious actress and her TV presenter husband revealed they want to work together on a new film.

“That would be amazing – I think it would have to be a comedy, though,” Cannon said.

“She cracks me up – she’s the funniest person in the world. The jokes we have at home are the next level.”

Carey said her role as a downtrodden social worker in Precious has allowed her to relax about her body image.

“It freed me in a lot of ways,” Carey said.

“I’m not as uptight now.

“It was Lee Daniels’ vision to take away the whole image thing and just really do the part.

“I’m just honoured to be part of the film – I think it’s an amazing, amazing piece of work.”

Nina Sky not happy with their label

It looks like the musical duo is not very happy with their label, Polo Grounds, for not releasing their first album. This is what the two sisters of Nina Sky, Nicole and Natalie Albino, said about the matter on twitter: “Starting a new campaign today..Nina Sky Doesn’t Play Polo’ .. For MONTHS we’ve had a complete album, ready for release. Y’ALL wanna know what’s REALLY goin on? Nothing + that’s the problem. We released 2 videos and singles without support from our label. All good.. Stayed positive… After months of no movement we asked to be released + still nothing. No acknowledment from the President of out label Bryan Leach..” Here’s the very interesting part: Bryan Leach is the name of the record label’s president and the album Nina Sky is trying to release is called “Starting Today”. If only the label were making some sort of secret profit from not releasing their album, that would just make all of this circle of irony perfect… but sadly, that is probably not the case. Still it is a very good coincidence of name.

Pink Floyd won their lawsuit

“Let us give Caesar what is already Caesar’s!” Otherwise he’s just going to show up and take it himself. This was the case with Pink Floyd too. It looks like EMI Group has been selling their songs as downloadable even though Pink Floyd’s contracts specifically state that the content from their albums is not to be unbundled from its original context. So Pink Floyd went ahead and sued EMI for the royalties and they won approximately sixty thousand pounds. This will not bode well for EMI however since they haven’t been faring so well financially. Maybe they can get will.i.am to rip off an obscure track from somebody and turn it into a money-maker… then they wouldn’t have these kinds of lawsuit problems.

Mary J. Blige Does Led Zeppelin

Mary J. Blige has reportedly done two covers of Led Zeppelin songs for the international reissue of her album ‘Stronger with Each Tear’ which is due out on Monday. The singer recruited the likes of Travis Barker, Randy Jackson and guitarist Steve Vai to collaborate with her on ‘Stairway to Heaven’ and had so much fun that she decided to cover ‘Whole Lotta Love’ too. Mary said “I did Led Zeppelin’s ‘Stairway to Heaven’ and ‘Whole Lotta Love’ — it’s crazy! I am a Led Zeppelin fan. I’m not going to say I’ve been to their concerts, but I’ve listened to their music since I was a child, and it’s always moved me, especially ‘Stairway to Heaven’, and ‘Whole Lotta Love’ is just fun. I want y’all to hear it.”

Antonio ‘LA’ Reid, the CEO of Island Def Jam, recently bailed on an appearance, claiming that his son was in the hospital. However, sources are saying that the medical emergency may have been BS and that due to disappointing sales from Rihanna and Mariah Carey’s latest albums, LA is feeling the pressure and may be on his way out. A source said “There was speculation among other music executives that this was not entirely the truth. Reid didn’t want to answer questions about his future with Island Def Jam. The move left organizers panicked with no speaker with just hours to go. Vevo CEO Rio Caraeff agreed to stand in.” Is LA trying to head out after a couple of flops?

D’Angelo Pleads Not Guilty

Washed up R&B singer D’Angelo was arrested in New York this past weekend after propositioning an undercover cop for oral sex and the guy had the fall to plead not guilty to the charges. He said in a statement that he hopes the public will “allow the American justice system to resolve the matter before jumping to any conclusions.” I don’t even think that anyone still cares about the guy anymore, much less jump to conclusions about his situation. Yeah, I don’t think so. And come on! It was already an undercover cop that he propositioned! What more proof does the justice system need?

Will.i.am’s formula for success

The singer from the Black Eyed Peas recently shared his views on success with all of us mere mortals. In will.i.am’s opinion, you can only be successful if you give to charity. This is what he said on the matter: “It’s one thing to make it – and you’ve got your own apartment, or house, or car – and you keep it for you. That’s not making it. Making it is spreading it.” Apparently will.i.am is a big fan of charity and thinks its important to share one’s wealth and success. Strange, no mention about all of those stolen songs for his band, but then again, if he can put a few kids through college just by stealing a bit of music, who’s to question will.i.am’s ways?

Jermaine Jackson Wants Another Michael Jackson Tribute

Jermaine Jackson is planning another Michael Jackson tribute concert to be held in London marking the one year anniversary of the King of Pop’s death. The original tribute concert for the late singer was to take place in Vienna but it ended up being cancelled. Jermaine booked Wembley Arena for June 8 for a star-studded performance but performances have yet to be revealed. Jermaine said “The best way and most suitable way is to assemble the world’s largest tribute in history that is only fitting to a man who moved the hearts and souls of an unimaginable amount.” He should have given up back in Austria.

Snoop Dogg Does Comedy

Rapper Snoop Dogg is teaming up with comedian Mike Epps in a comedy stage show called ‘Imagine That!’ portraying former nightclub performers in jail who are trying to break out. Mike said “This is an incredible opportunity to combine our similar, but different worlds of entertainment together on stage for the first time.” Snoop added “We’ve worked together in the past on some projects and knew that our audiences would love to see us bring Hip-Hop music and Hip-Hop comedy together on stage.” The tour begins on April 27 at Harrah’s Rincon Casino in San Diego. D’Angelo tries to hook up with the wrong person

The singer was apparently arrested recently after he made the very unpleasant mistake of soliciting a forty-dollar carrot wax from an undercover policewoman. After arresting D’Angelo, she searched his car too and found twelve thousand dollars in it. It looks like he wasn’t too short on money. Maybe if he had offered a better price he wouldn’t even have been in this situation. But as it turns out, D’Angelo might very well end up doing carrot waxes himself and for much, much less.
