U2 Concert to Stream Live on YouTube

U2 have confirmed via video blog that their sold-out concert at the Pasadena Rose Bowl in California, Sunday 25th October 2009 will be streamed free, in full and live on YouTube. It’s the first time a show of this size will be streamed live.

The Rose Bowl show is the penultimate U2 show this year – with more to come in 2010 – and already is set to host the venue’s biggest ever audience of over 96, 000 fans. The 360˚ Tour, which has been critically acclaimed and “re-invents rock’n’roll”*, will now boast unique access for fans worldwide – as fans in territories yet to be visited by the tour, or not at all, will be able to enjoy the whole show online. Managed in partnership with Live Nation, this sell-out tour has broken attendance records in most venues it has visited – its success due in part to increased capacity coupled with a lower ticket price and great sight lines afforded by the stunning in-the-round stage set. Visit U2.com or youtube.com/u2official for details of how to join in this ground-breaking on-line event.

U2 manager Paul McGuinness said – “The band has wanted to do something like this for a long time. As we’re filming the LA show, it’s the perfect opportunity to extend the party beyond the stadium. Fans often travel long distances to come to see U2 – this time U2 can go to them, globally.”

YouTube will be streaming live across five continents. The show will be available in the usual You Tube way, as video-on-demand, following two full replays – after the live stream – on both U2.com and You Tube.

“YouTube is thrilled to be able to provide our global audience with a live streaming performance from one of the world’s greatest bands” – Chris Maxcy, Director of YouTube Partner Development. “We are always looking for new ways to connect fans around the world with their favourite artists, and this is the perfect opportunity to do just that.”

Michael Jackson Tribute in Vienna Lacking Stars

The so-called official line up for the Michael Jackson Tribute being held in Vienna, Austria on September 26th has been revealed. Mary J. Blige, Natalie Cole, Sister Sledge, US5, Chris Brown and Angela Bassett are slated to perform while others are still being confirmed. That’s certainly an interesting line up. The big question is whether or not Jermaine Jackson will be able to follow through with his promise of big names like Madonna, U2, Robbie Williams and Whitney Houston. The late singer’s brother will be in for it if he fails to deliver. 45,000 of the King of Pop’s fans have already bought tickets.

New U2 Video

U2’s new single, “Magnificent,” was released on May 4th by Mercury Records.

The video for “Magnificent” was directed by French filmmaker Alex Courtes. Alex also directed the video for the band’s previous single, “Get On Your Boots,” and alongside his former creative partner Martin Fougeral won a Grammy award for the “Vertigo” video. The video for “Magnificent” was shot in the historic city of Fez, Morocco last month.

“Magnificent,” the second single from No Line On The Horizon, will be available in the UK as a download and on 7″ vinyl. The vinyl single will be backed with a live version of album track Breathe, recorded in the Somerville Theatre in Boston earlier this year.

U2 Single Gets Justice Remix

U2, arguably one of the greatest rock bands of all time, has teamed up with A-list production team Justice to bring fans a mind-altering remix of epic proportions. The pairing of super stars and super producers on “Get On Your Boots,” the first single from U2’s No Line On The Horizon, can be heard exclusively on Stereogum.com.

Chris Martin dismisses rumors of rivalry with U2

Even though the front man from Coldplay has been branded a “wanker” by Bono, Chris Martin insists that there is no rivalry between the two bands: “We never started any rivalry, because we are fully aware that we are a number six band. We are not even number two. We are always very thrilled when someone even bothers to compare us, but we are 23 years behind them and they are in a way different league.” That’s it, go ahead! Kiss the ass of the one who kicked you in the gut! I wouldn’t have imagined Chris Martin to be so low on self-respect. Sure, you’d expect Bono to act all high and mighty, given his career a certain amount of smug becomes greatly predictable. Too bad Chris Martin had this reply. Still, it would be fun to see Oasis and U2 getting into a conflict like this. Just imagine the fireworks that would result! When that much amount of smug gets into close contact… anything can happen.

This highly anticipated annual event takes place on Wednesday 18 February at London’s Earls Court.

This year’s BRIT Awards, the premiere event in the British music calendar, is shaping up to be one of the strongest yet, with U2 confirmed, Pet Shop Boys being honored with the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award and further intriguing live performances to be announced over the coming weeks. The show will be a spectacular night of great music, featuring and honouring the hottest music talent and thrilling the eleven thousand audience at Earls Court, as well as making it a must tune-in for the millions watching The BRITs live on ITV1.

Formed in 1976, U2 consists of Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jnr. Over their three-decade career the band have sold over 140 million albums worldwide – with multiple gold, platinum and diamond certifications, and have amassed more awards than any other band. No Line On The Horizon, the new studio album from U2

No Line On The Horizon, the new studio album from U2, will be released in North America on Tuesday, March 3, 2009.

Written and recorded in various locations, No Line On The Horizon is the group’s 12th studio album and is their first release since the nine million selling album How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, released in late 2004.

Sessions for No Line On The Horizon began last year in Fez, Morocco, and continued in the band’s own studio in Dublin, before moving to New York’s Platinum Sound Recording Studios. It was completed at Olympic Studios in London.

The album calls on the production talents of long-time collaborators Brian Eno and Danny Lanois, with additional production by Steve Lillywhite.

Bono told to lose weight

bono.jpg

Bono has reportedly been ordered to lose weight before U2 release their new album and start a proposed world tour next year.

The singer – who has been entertaining celebrity friends including Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and Robert De Niro on his yacht in France this summer – has been told he needs to lose his excess pounds before the band start their promotional duties again.

A source said: “U2 have an album coming out around January. And then the band is going on another world tour in March and April – so the boys have been told to start exercising all the summer weight off.”

U2 – comprising Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen, Jr. – are rumoured to be calling the new record, their first in four years, ‘No Line On The Horizon’.

Tracks on the LP have been leaked on the internet after a fan recorded the music from the upcoming record that Bono was playing in his French villa. The four leaked songs are believed to be called ‘Moment of Surrender’, ‘For Your Love’, ‘Sexy Boots’ and ‘No Line On The Horizon’.

The Scoop from U2

u2-photo.jpg

A couple of paparazzi caught up with a good half of U2 over the weekend and they might have gotten a scoop as to why the band hasn’t released a new album since their 2004 release ‘How to Dismantle and Atomic Bomb’.

Bono gave a terse but perfectly rational answer, saying “Edge has got to restring his guitars”. Doi. If the giddy laughter that followed his answer was any indication, you have to know that he’s just joking or speaking some other form of language that only the duo can understand.

As usual, The Edge, whose real name is David Howell Evans, who was with Bono at the Clinton Global Initiative event, had very little to say about it. More like absolutely nothing really.

U2’s New Songs Update

U2’s New Songs Update
U2 is in the middle of a special songwriting and recording session with usual collaborators Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno. This takes place in Marocco and different sources have reported that the bind has a lot of plans and many ideas. Bono on the other hand stated on U2.com that there is no talk of an album yet as it is still not planned. He said that:

“We have no plans for the music yet. We’re just going to make it until we can’t not put it out!”

Different events are planed for U2 this Summer and this looks like a relaxation session before a full schedule. The Live Earth concerts and different June sessions plus their concert film “U23D” are all big projects. Fans will still have to wait a little more for the next U2 studio album.
