The 23-year old ‘Girlfriend’ singer picked up the award for Most Addictive Track at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2007 in Munich, Germany on Thursday. Avril accepted the award and said “This is amazing. I’d like to thank the fans for voting for me.”

Two Jamaican reggae and dancehall artists, Sizzla and Elephant man, were shown the door by at least one Toronto venue after Canadian advocacy groups protested against the pair for their anti-gay slurs. Sizzla was scheduled to perform at Toronto’s Kool Haus last Friday while Elephant Man has an October 6 concert scheduled at the place. Both shows got canceled.
An alliance of give or take 20 organizations called Stop Murder Music Canada called for the artists to be banned from the country. The founder of the organization Akim Larcher told the Toronto Star “They shouldn’t have been allowed to get visas to perform in the country. It’s not about censorship or artistic freedom. That stops when hate propaganda is involved.”

Shakira met with Mayor Bloomberg at City Hall on Thursday to announce that she was making a $40 million donation to aid relief efforts in disaster-stricken Peru and Nicaragua. The huge donation is a gift from a foundation co-created by the Columbian singer – The Latin America for Solidarity Foundation.
An additional $5 million will be spent on health and education in four other Latin American countries, bringing her total donation to a cool $45 million.

Former Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are coming home to celebrate Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture in 2008.
McCartney is headlining a concert at Anfield Stadium, home of Liverpool Football Club, while Starr is joining forces with Eurythmics member Dave Stewart for “Liverpool The Musical.”
“It’s going to be a great year,” McCartney promised in a statement on Thursday detailing plans for the northern English city’s cultural bonanza.
“I’m very proud of the city and I look forward to welcoming you all and showing you a good time,” McCartney said.
He is headlining next June’s concert which will be broadcast live to a worldwide audience. The full line-up is to be announced later.

Kanye West is playing it strong and in order to succeed with a tour promoting the soon to be released new LP (“Graduation”). He stated that he will work with choreographer-director Jamie King, made famous by working with superstars like Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Prince, Britney Spears, Shakira and Mariah Carey. Kanye West said for MTV that:
“I’m working with Jamie King. I saw the last Madonna concert — he did the last Madonna concerts and so I’ve been sitting down vibing with him, cause I want to bring the level of entertainment up another level. At the end of the day, regardless of the he said/she said, regardless of whatever sh– I talk, whatever sh– anybody else talks — come to the show and have a good time.”

She is currently floating on the number one spot with “Glamorous”, and she is also on the number twenty spot on the list with her “Fergilicious”. She is definitely in control of her crowd. Legendary guitarist Les Paul played a performance for his hometown on Thursday night, to an awestruck sold out crowd. He’s 91, and he’s still able to rock. A Wisconsin native, Les came to Wausheka to raise money for an exhibit on his life. The evening raised over $100,000. Not bad for a night’s work. During his hour and a half concert, he joined his jazz trio in playing such tunes as “Tennessee Waltz,” “Lady Is a Tramp” and “Embraceable You” as the crowd paid rapt attention.
Am I the only one here that thought this guy was dead? All I know about him are his guitars, which are incredible and sought after by the best musicians. I am awestruck myself to realize he is still around and able to play after all these years. I am sure those in attendance realized what an extraordinary event they were witnessing.
