Diddy’s getting close to comedies

The rapper is apparently getting pretty passionate about comedies, especially given the success his first one, “Get Him to the Greek”, had. This is what Diddy confessed about starring in comedies: “When I did ‘Get Him to the Greek,’ I really fell in love with making people laugh. I have a knack for improvisation, and hopefully I’ll be able to make people laugh more.” Finally he has discovered it! More than anything else, Diddy has finally found that the most noble endeavor in the land is making people laugh. Hopefully he will find more career opportunities that will permit him to join the proud descendants of the court jester.

50 Cent Slims Down for Movie

50 Cent has a new movie coming out called ‘Things Fall Apart’, which he also wrote. For his part, the rapper lost over 50 pounds to play the role of a football player who dies of cancer. The transformation is so unsettling that you would believe that he was actually going through the ordeal. 50 Cent admits that it took nine weeks to become that thin and that he had to commit himself to a three-hour-a-day treadmill walk and a liquid diet. But now that the movie is over, the rapper intends to go back to his brawny ways. Kudos to him for being so committed to the craft!

Mary J Blige is Nina Simone

Mary J. Blige has been tapped to play soul queen Nina Simone in the upcoming movie ‘Nina’. According to Billboard, the film will star the 39-year old R&B singer in a story focusing on Nina’s relationship with her assistant Clifton Henderson, who will be played by David Oyelowo. The movie will start to shoot this fall. This isn’t Mary’s first foray into acting. She most recently had a supporting role in Tyler Perry’s ‘I Can Do Bad All By Myself’. I wonder how she will do in the biopic. I guess we’ll see when it gets released. There’s no word on when it will be out though.

Soul Train the Movie

Warner Bros. has commissioned Malcolm Spellman to write a feature based on the classic TV Dance show ‘Soul Train’. The film will be set in the 1980s and Don Cornelius, the host and producer of the original show that spanned 35 years, will also serve as one of the producers of the film. Spellman said “All of the hip-hop street dances you see today were born during that time period and were first seen on that show, and I remember doing all of them when I was a kid.” He also talked about being able to work with Don, saying “Writing with Don involved is quite an experience. He’s still the godfather of cool.”

It’s always annoying when a rapper says that he’s retired then comes back only to retire again and then come back again. But in Jay-Z’s case, no one should care as long as he’s number 1.

The rapper may have flashed two fingers when he passed paparazzi on his way to TRL on Monday. But as of the middle of the week, he hit number 1. As it was projected by music insiders last week, his American Gangster-inspired album took the top spot on the Billboard charts and knocked the Eagles down a notch.

Congratulations to Jay-Z. This is his 10th #1 album!
