Idris Elba has compared Jay-Z to Stringer Bell, the drug-dealing character he played on cult TV series, The Wire. The Luther actor says that when he met the rapper he was immediately reminded of the role that made him a star in the US. “There’s a way Jay-Z looks you dead in your eye and doesn’t look away that reminded me of Stringer,” Elba, 39, tells Essence magazine. The irony of the comparison is not lost on the Hackney-born actor who is aware of the rapper’s past career as a drug dealer. Born Shawn Corey Carter, Jay-Z started selling crack cocaine in his Brooklyn neighbourhood when he was just 13. The 41-year-old has been open about his criminal past. Elba met Jay-Z at the premiere of Obsessed, the 2009 film he starred in opposite the rapper’s wife, Beyonce.

Congratulations are in order for Lil Wayne as the rapper broke the record for the iTunes store’s single-week album sales by selling over 300,000 downloads in the first four days of his latest album “Tha Carter IV”. Jay-Z and Kanye West actually just recently broke the record when their collaborative album “Watch the Throne” was released. It was a short-lived reign for those two. If that wasn’t enough of a success for Lil Wayne, the combined digital and physical sales of the album is expected to be around 850,000 copies. That is impressive! It’s hard to come up with those first week numbers in the music industry today.

Beyonce is the first on the list of Hollywood stars who spend enormous amounts of money.
The 29-year-old singer managed to spend over 32,000 dollars in one hour while she was on a trip to London, shortly after that she bought a ring for which she paid 36 000 dollars.
The most consistent investment that Beyonce did was for the sake of Jay-Z and consists of luxurious Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport car worth $ 2 million, a gift that she gave her husband with the occasion of his birthday.
OK Magazine named Beyonce the most spending star, followed closely by Oprah Winfrey.
The famous TV presenter has a private jet worth 42 million dollars and invested $ 20,000 in portraits of his pet dogs.
Up close in the rankings are also Daniel Radcliffe, David & Victoria Beckham and Johnny Depp.

In a surprise performance, Jay-Z and Kanye West took to the stage at the 2011 MTV VMAs at Nokia Theatre LA Live in Los Angeles this past Sunday to perform their song “Otis”. Do I even have to say how amazing this performance is? The mere fact that you have these two hip hop moguls collaborating and then seeing them perform live is just surreal. It’s like a clash of the titans but in a really good way. These two have really revived my interest in hip hop, which is funny since I’m really not their biggest fans when they’re on their own. But together, they are magic.

Kanye West and Jay-Z recently premiered the official music video for their latest single “Otis” via MTV. The track is the second single off of the rappers’ collaborative studio album “Watch the Throne”, which is on its way to surpassing the 500,000 units sold in its debut week. The song samples Otis Redding’s “Try a Little Tenderness” and makes the track sound like an old school hip hop hit. As for the video, which was directed by Spike Jonze, it sees Kanye and Jay-Z performing a massacre on a Maybach and turning it into a monster turbo machine. The rappers along with a few models have fun riding it and rapping their verses in front of a huge wall with a print of the US flag. And FYI, the car used in the video will be put up for auction with proceeds going toward relief for the East African drought disaster.

Check out one of the most anticipated tracks from Kanye West and Jay-Z’s joint album “Watch the Throne”. The song is called “Lift Off”. It was co-produced by Jeff Bhasker and Mike Dean, and features Beyonce. The two rappers spit some sick verses while the R&B singer takes charge of an anthem-sounding hook, all over a cool retro production. I think this is one of the stand outs on the album and I hope that they decide to give this the single treatment. I can only imagine the greatness of this being performed lived as well as the epic music video that will go with it.

There have been some rumors going around that there’s some drama between Kanye West and Jay-Z and the tour in support of their collaborative album “Watch the Throne”. At first, word on the street was that the two rappers were fighting over creative differences on the tour’s design. Then, Jay-Z did an impromptu interview to deny the extent of the story. But now, the tour is being rescheduled. Instead of the September 22 kick off, the curtain will rise on October 29, citing high demand. I say these guys are masters of milking publicity. What do you think is the real deal?

Jay-Z and Kanye West have signed an exclusive deal with iTunes and Best Buy for the release of their highly anticipated joint album “Watch the Throne”. This is something that has made owners of nearly 2000 indie retailers pissed off. They’ve signed a letter addressed to the two rappers, saying “We know that you are busy, and that you put most of your energies into creating great music, but we are writing to you in the hope that you will hear us and take the time to rectify this matter. As representatives of the independent record store music community, we are asking you to allow record stores and music fans equal access to your new album.” Some of them are so pissed that they said they’d pull current and previous releases by the two hip hop artists from their shelves.

Hip hop heavyweights Kanye West and Jay-Z use a sample of Otis Redding’s 1966 classic “Try a Little Tenderness” in their new track, which is aptly called “Otis”. This fire collaboration will appear on the rappers’ joint album called “Watch the Throne”. This track is absolutely amazing. It’s sick from the first beat and epic from the first line. I haven’t been the biggest fan of hip hop but I’ll be the first to say that this song has single-handedly made me into a fan again. It’s not the usual fare from either Kanye or Jay-Z but I think that’s the real appeal of it. It’s different from what we usually hear and they delivered.

50 Cent has decided to enter among the stars with a big heart, so in the coming years is going to be dedicated to noble causes. More specifically, the hip-hop star wants to feed a billion Africans suffering from poverty and famine. And it shouldn’t be difficult. Considering how many millions he has in his account, he can not complain that he can’t help others. `I want to get more involved in people’s lives. I want to feed a billion Africans in the next five years, ‘wrote 50 Cent on his Twitter page. When asked why he’s not donating money to organizations in his hometown or the United States, 50 Cent explained that Americans are doing better than Africans, who often do not receive even drinking water. 50 Cent is not the first rapper willing to donate money to poor people in Africa. Jay-Z and Ja Rule have been involved in several fundraising campaigns for the inhabitants of the Black Continent.
