Formula One ace Lewis Hamilton has reportedly been teaching Beyonce how to drive like a professional.
The 24-year-old world champion has been showing Beyonce, 27, and rapper hubby Jay-Z, 39, around the track after they arrived at the Cannes Film Festival.
The couple has been supporting Beyonce’s younger sister Solange Knowles after she performed at the VIP Rooms.
An insider said: "Beyonce’s so excited to be learning from him. And Jay’s even worse. He’s ready to put on his helmet and get in the fast lane himself."
The singer and her husband Jay-Z have recently started taking driving lessons, but it’s not just anyone that’s teaching them. The couple is taking driving lessons from none other than Lewis Hamilton himself. And Beyonce is apparently not just learning how to drive, but how to race too. A source said the following about the singer’s new occupation: “Beyonce’s so excited to be learning from him. And Jay is too. He’s ready to put on his helmet and get in the fast lane.” If Lewis Hamilton actually manages to stop Beyonce from crashing into the side wall in the first minutes, he’s got my vote of confidence. I wonder how calm he felt about Beyonce driving a race car… he must have nerves of steel.
Beyonce’s father and manager, Matthew Knowles has released a statement in response to the sound board clip of his daughter supposedly singing very off key. He said “If no one took the time to look at the biggest Inauguration in the history of America then shame on them. If no one took the time to listen to Beyonce sing ‘America the Beautiful’ and ‘At Last’ at the Neighborhood Ball for the first dance of President Obama and the First Lady, and they question Beyonce’s vocal ability, they’ve gotta be an idiot. If no one took the time to look at the biggest Inauguration in the history of America then shame on them. If no one took the time to listen to Beyonce sing ‘America the Beautiful’ and ‘At Last’ at the Neighborhood Ball for the first dance of President Obama and the First Lady, and they question Beyonce’s vocal ability, they’ve gotta be an idiot.”
Seeing how she is on the red carpet, would you ever guess that Beyonce is actually a cheapskate? In an interview with the UK’s Mirror, the singer says she prefers to invest her earnings rather than throw her money around on pricey items. She said “Honestly, I’m very frugal. I haven’t bought a car since I was 16 or any diamonds since I was 17. I have a lot of property. I’ve invested my money and I don’t have to make any more, thank God, because I’m set. I’m now able really to be free and just do things that make me happy.” Why buy diamonds anyway when people just give it to her for free so they can get advertising?
The NAACP Image Awards went down last week and it was a particularly inspired night. In addition to receiving awards for best female artist and best female artist, respectively, Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson both gave amazing performances with Beyonce singing ‘Halo’ and Jennifer Hudson singing ‘The Impossible Dream’. will.i.am and Seal also performed at the show which honors achievement and performances of people of color in TV, film, music and literature. Chandra Wilson, Columbus Short, Jamie Foxx, Sean ‘Diddy Combs’, Hill Harper, Tracee Ellis Ross, Taraji P. Henson, Will Smith, Rosario Dawson, Wangari Maathai, Muhammad Ali, and Russell Simmons were some of the other awardees.
Which of the two singers do you think is the bitch, Etta James or Beyonce? Etta says neither because she was apparently just kidding when she threatened Beyonce with a butt kicking. The 71-year old singer told the New York Daily News that her words did not come from a vicious place. She confessed that she felt left out of the Inauguration activities because she wasn’t asked to perform “her song”, adding that she thinks she could have sung it better. Of course, I already mentioned how even though she made ‘At Last’ famous, it wasn’t her song as two other singers, Glenn Miller and Nat King Cole, recorded their versions before her.
The prim and proper rich girl turned diva also known as Beyonce is trying once again to make us believe that she’s just like us regular people. Of course, all her trying was in vain. In a recent interview, she talked about how she’s just like everyone else saying “I’m not this round the clock diva looking for attention. I’m way more comfortable out of the spotlight and just chilling out with my family. I’m very quiet. I love to paint. I love to watch TV though it seems I never get to do it. I love a lot old television shows. I still love the ‘Cosbys’. I also love the ‘Fresh Prince’.”
Jay-Z and Beyonce joined hands in paying tribute to Barack Obama on the eve of his inauguration by presenting an intimate one-off special concert at Washington DC’s Warner Theater on January 19.
The entire backdrop of the stage was cover with images of Obama and that drew the most cheers from a crowd which had an impressive array of guest with fans paying anywhere from $100 to $500 to join in the celebrations to mark the inauguration of their new President.
Jay-Z played select numbers like ‘Hard Knock Life’, ‘99 Problems’ & ‘Dirt Off Your Shoulder’. Beyonce though just made an electrifying guest appearance and sang ‘Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)’.
At the end of the show Jay-Z dished out champagne to fans in the front row which included celebrities like actor Samuel L Jackson. With just a sometime before Obama officially takes over as the 44th President of United States of America people are really brimming with hope that the dawn will spell a new beginning for all of America.
Big stars like Bruce Springsteen, Bono and Beyonce are set to perform during US President-elect Barack Obama’s pre-inauguration concert on January 18 at Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC. The list of celebrities who wanted to perform for Obama’s pre-inaugural and actual inauguration ceremony is endless but only a few were chosen due to the sensitivity of the event and the very tight security procedures.
The show is aptly titled “We Are The One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration” considering the united front shown by the various big stars who will grace the show. To join Springsteen, Bono and Beyonce on stage are Sheryl Crow, Stevie Wonder, James Taylor, John Mellencamp, Shakira, Josh Groban and Usher. You can also watch the show in any cable station beginning 7 PM. Event producer George Stevens said it took only 45 minutes to get three yeses from Garth Brooks, Bono and Springsteen when they were asked to perform in the show.
Beyonce Knowles and hubby Jay-Z hit the premiere of ‘Notorious’ at the AMC Lincoln Square in New York City last week. The movie is a biopic about rapper The Notorious BIG. The movie is about the rapper’s rise from the streets of Brooklyn to become one of the most influential hip hop artists of all time. BIG was a gifted storyteller; his narratives about violent life on the streets were told with a gritty, objective realism that won him enormous respect and credibility. His stories were universal and gave a voice to his generation. The movie opens everywhere this coming Friday, January 16.
Beyonce looked stunning in a black gown that she wore for the 2008 Los 40 Principales awards ceremony at the Palacio de los Deportes in Madrid, Spain last week. The 27-year old singer recently did a Britney Spears as weel when she made a guest performance on the British show X-Factor. Beyonce performed the song ‘Listen’ as a duet with Alexandra Burke. If you were able to catch the show, you should also know that Alexandra was eventually crowned the winner of the show. Even if you didn’t catch it, you should know that she would win anyway. Who loses after performing with Beyonce anyway?
Beyonce was looking glamorous on the red carpet in a back Dolce & Gabbana dress with puff sleeves for the premiere of her new movie ‘Cadillac Records’ which was held at The Egyptian Theater this past Monday in Hollywood. The 27-year old singer and actress finished off her outfit with a glitzy belt and Brian Atwood heels. Beyonce portrays singer Etta James in the drama musical which comes out December 5. ‘Cadillac Records’ explores the 1950s musical era, chronicling the life of the influential Chicago-based record company executive Leonard Chess and the singers who recorded for Chess Records. It sounds like a great movie to me.
I guess Sasha really is fierce. According to HITS Daily Double, Beyonce’s new double disc ‘I Am…Sasha Fierce’ is said to be the #1 album by next week. She is expected to sell anywhere between 500,000 to 550,000 units of her album. That’s not good enough to match Taylor Swift’s sales though as the country singing cutie sold 592,000 copies of her latest album. If Beyonce does get number 1, it’s going to be a close call for #2 – either David Cook, Nickelback or Taylor. I hope Taylor beats the boys. Either way, it’s not going to be a bad week for any of the singers.
TRL has gone and said goodbye but they made sure that they left an impression. Beyonce opened up the show by singing ‘Single Ladies’ and ‘Crazy in Love’. Carson Daly and Damien Fahey took to the stage to host a bit before a clip of Miley Cyrus was shown. Then Diddy took to the stage to talk about TRL. Ben Stiller and Christina Aguilera also had clips for TRL before they went to Fall Out Boy performing on a huge stage out in Times Square. Justin Timberlake and JC Chasez also did a mini reunion recollecting their NSYNC days. Kid Rock, TRL news correspondents, Snoop Dogg, Nelly, Ludacris, Vanessa Minnillo, Heidi Montag, Hilary Duff and many others showed up to say goodbye to the show. It sucked that some of the performances were pre-taped though.
Beyonce will be helping out NBC to kick off the holiday season on Wednesday, December 3 at 8-9PM ET/PT with the lighting of the world’s most famous Christmas tree during the 11th annual Christmas in Rockefeller Center telecast. Today’s Al Rocker will be the host for the live holiday celebration of the 76th Tree Lighting Ceremony. The star studded annual tree lighting extravaganza will also have performances of current hits and classics from the likes of David Cook, Jonas Brothers, Faith Hill, Tony Bennett, Neil Boyd, Harry Connick Jr., Rosie O’Donnell and the Broadway Kids, Rascal Flatts and Solange Knowles.
Beyonce has recently told the LA Times that she wants to be the first black Wonder Woman. She has already been in talks with DC Comics and Warner Bros to achieve that dream. She said “I want to do a superhero movie and what would be better than Wonder Woman? It would be great. And it would be a very bold choice. A black Wonder Woman would be a powerful thing. It’s time for that, right? After doing these roles that were so emotional (‘Dreamgirls’, ‘Cadillac Records’) I was thinking to myself, ‘OK, I need to be a superhero.’ Although, when you think about the psychology of the heroes in the films these days, they are still a lot of work, of course, and emotional. But there’s also an action element that I would enjoy.”
Beyonce Knowles rocked the World Music Awards night held in Monte Carlo. She performed “Single ladies (Put a Ring On It)”. The awards night took place on Sunday November 9th and Knowles was amongst the top performers who included the likes of Kid Rock, Mariah Carey (a former WMA winner), Alicia Keys and many others.
Beyonce recently stopped by MTV Studion in New York City for an appearance on Total Request Live. The 27-year old singer talked about her upcoming album and showed off her two new music videos for her songs ‘Single Ladies’ and ‘If I Were a Boy’. Beyonce also talked about why there were no collaborations on her upcoming album saying “I just wanted people to get to know me and the two extremes of my personality. Once the album comes out, you’ll completely understand. You can kind of see with the videos. One is my alter ego (Sasha) and the other one is really intimate and emotional. The album is kind of split into two, it’s a double album.”
Timbaland got married on a private island in Aruba last weekend but don’t think that the rapper and mega producer went all out with the fancy stuff. Spies at the wedding site says that the music mogul’s wedding, which the hotel called the code name of ‘Heaven on Earth’, actually featured open mic karaoke and $50,000 worth of flowers. If you compare that to Mariah’s weddings, it’s practically peanuts. Oprah, Madonna, Missy Elliott, Beyonce, Jay-Z and Prince were said to be invited but there’s no official word on just who actually showed. What, Justin Timberlake wasn’t invited? I was kind of imagining him as the wedding singer.
