We have been duped by marketing once again kiddies! The Smoking Gun has unearthed police, court and corrections records that prove that multi-platinum selling musician Akon has been blowing a lot of smoke up our butts. There has been no conviction and he wasn’t locked up between 1999 and 2002. They say that Akon “’created a fictionalized back story that serves as the narrative anchor for his recorded tales of isolation, violence, woe, and regret. Akon has overdubbed his biography with the kind of grit and menace that he apparently believes music consumers desire from their hip-hop stars.” The Smoking Gun also expresses shock that the media failed to look into Akon’s claim before he got huge.

X-Factor champion Leona Lewis has already taken the UK by storm and is even one of the best selling artists of 2007 on that side of the pond. Now, she’s set to release her debut album ‘Spirit’ in the US on April 28th. And she has some extra things in store.

Sources say that the singer is currently busy in the studio recording two brand new songs for the US release. One song, ‘Forgive Me’, is by singer/producer Akon and another is ‘Misses Glass’ by cutting edge producers/writers Madd Scientist and Rock City. Additionally, Leona has also re-recorded the video for ‘Bleeding Love’.

R&B hot stuff Chris Brown is a big fan of Akon. And I do mean big. The singer even goes as far as copying Akon’s famous dance and hump incident with a fan at his New York City concert over the weekend. The difference, Chris’ dance partner was legal and she’s quite heftier than Akon’s skinny little 15-year old. He’s a mighty strong man then. And a big sport too. Must stop the puns.

Anyway, Chris shared the stage with reggae sensation Elephant Man at ‘On Da Reggae Tip’ which was sponsored by the New York City radio station Hot 97.

Akon has never been one of my favorite artists and this is not because of the music but of his attitude. Just recently he was filmed performing an inappropriate act with an underage girl and his general attitude should be different. Now the artist is in trouble again. Akon has been caught on camera as he is assaulting a fan that he believed threw something at him. It all took place at K Fest. The rapper made security bring the individual one stage only for Akon to manhandle him. After that the video shows him throwing the individual in the crowd. This is not quite a superstar attitude but what can we say? Almost every song Akon has will start with the words “convict” or “convict music”. Maybe he should stay in jail a little so that he would really understand what convict is.
