Usher Wants Your Money

Usher is one person who isn’t afraid to tell you to your face that he will take money from our screwed up banking system. At least as long as the cash flow goes to his non-profit organization. The R&B singer, who was fresh from testifying to Congress about volunteer work, left his pop persona far behind, and instead spoke to photographers as Usher Raymond IV and talked about his New Look organization. How do you know that he was being sincere? We all know how much he needs help in promoting his album but when paparazzi asked about it, he refused to plug the album and just kept talking about the organization.

50 Cent Waiting on Eminem

I was beginning to think that the people who care about 50 Cent’s career have become imaginary but it seems it’s really the rapper’s imagination that has gotten ahead of him. 50 just announced that he won’t be releasing his new album ‘Before I Self Destruct’ until after Eminem drops his tentatively titled upcoming album ‘Relapse’. It’s nice considering that Eminem was pretty much responsible for launching his career. One big problem though. Eminem’s ‘Relapse’ still has no release date so it might be a while before we get to hear 50’s album. That may not be such a bad thing.

NORE Busted

Early Sunday, rapper NORE was arrested after getting into a fight in a Miami Beach restaurant. If you don’t know who he is, he’s the 31-year old rapper formerly known as Noreaga. He’s known in jail by his birth name Victor Santiago. He was at a Fatburger place and started to cause problems when he began yelling at another customer. He then ripped up a bouquet of flowers and threw a cup of liquid at the customer. According to the authorities, NORE punched the customer in the face and yelled “Do you know who I am?” The so-called celebrity was charged with misdemeanor battery and disorderly conduct.

Alicia Keys at the Oscars

Alicia Keys greeted the cameras with a wink and a nod on the Oscar red carpet this past Sunday. The singer showed up to the ceremonies in a pretty risqué purple floor length gown. It still made her look fabulous though! However, I’m not entirely sure about that hair. It’s too obvious that Alicia was wearing some sort of hair piece. I’m wondering why she was there though. Oh well, I’m more ok with her being there than I am with Miley Cyrus being there. Honestly, I think the Oscars need to screen the attendees of the ceremonies to avoid having unwanted guests.

Beyonce is a Cheapskate

Seeing how she is on the red carpet, would you ever guess that Beyonce is actually a cheapskate? In an interview with the UK’s Mirror, the singer says she prefers to invest her earnings rather than throw her money around on pricey items. She said “Honestly, I’m very frugal. I haven’t bought a car since I was 16 or any diamonds since I was 17. I have a lot of property. I’ve invested my money and I don’t have to make any more, thank God, because I’m set. I’m now able really to be free and just do things that make me happy.” Why buy diamonds anyway when people just give it to her for free so they can get advertising?

2009: Year of Flo Rida

2009 is shaping up to be a very good year for rapper Flo Rida. His new single ‘Right Round’ has become a hit and has recently broken all digital sales records. According to Nielsen Soundscan, the single had 636,000 digital downloads in just one week! The rapper has been predicted to have the number one song in America once the new edition of the Billboard Hot 100 is released. Congratulations to him! I already said how much I love the track despite the fact that I originally thought that he’s just another annoying rapper trying to make it big. Sometimes, sampling from the classics isn’t such a bad thing.

Ruben Studdard Suffers American Idol Curse

The whole country may now be suffering from a recession but did you know that the fallen American Idols got in on it before everyone else? It’s a curse. Like a few of his fellow alums, Ruben Studdard is facing some financial woes after being dropped by his record label. The velvet teddy bear owes $254,119 in federal taxes. Geez! I wonder how he let his debt get that big. Moreover, I wonder how he’s going to pay for it. Maybe Simon Cowell can step in and save him just like he allegedly did for Fantasia Barrino. Oh wait, don’t let Simon know that we know he is secretly sensitive. Nobody has to know!

Kelly Rowland to Host

Now that ‘Project Runway’ is moving to Lifetime, Bravo is getting a replacement. Former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland, Designer Isaac Mizrahi and Senior Vice President of IMG Fashion Fern Mallis will serve as judges and host for the upcoming design show, ‘The Fashion Show’. The replacement follows professional designers as they compete for a chance to have their designs sold by a major retail outlet. The designers will face off in challenged and have their fate determined not only by the judges but also by the studio audience. Even though they tried to make it different from ‘Project Runway’, it still sounds like a rip off to me.

Singer Brandy’s $200,000 offer rejected by widower

The widower whose wife was killed in a car accident caused by singer Brandy in December of 2006 has declined an insurance settlement to which the singer was going to personally contribute as a mark or respect.

According to a reputed internet celebrity site Brandy had offered to pay the victim’s husband Marouane Hdidou a sum of $200,000 in addition to the $1 million he was being offered by an insurance company. But Marouane thought that the compensation was not enough as against the loss of his wife.

Well really speaking there is nothing that can replace the loss this man has suffered and it’s a matter of forgiving the culprit rather than anything else which I tell you is the toughest thing to do.

It also shows he loves his wife even today or else he would have jumped to the sight of the money, withdrawn all cases if any and have lived with the woman of his choice happily ever after. So this ain’t a fairy tale and it seems he’s got a good memory.

NAACP Image Awardees

The NAACP Image Awards went down last week and it was a particularly inspired night. In addition to receiving awards for best female artist and best female artist, respectively, Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson both gave amazing performances with Beyonce singing ‘Halo’ and Jennifer Hudson singing ‘The Impossible Dream’. will.i.am and Seal also performed at the show which honors achievement and performances of people of color in TV, film, music and literature. Chandra Wilson, Columbus Short, Jamie Foxx, Sean ‘Diddy Combs’, Hill Harper, Tracee Ellis Ross, Taraji P. Henson, Will Smith, Rosario Dawson, Wangari Maathai, Muhammad Ali, and Russell Simmons were some of the other awardees.

Singer Akon’s manager beats Suge Knight

Hip-hop king Suge Knight has suffered bruises and some facial injuries after he was beaten up by the manager of singer Akon. Suge Knight who is the former owner of Death Row Records was attending a party in Scottsdale, Arizona which was held at the W Hotel where celebrations were on as part of the NBA All-Star weekend.

The incident took place in the VIP lounge area where two groups got involved in a bare hands fight and that resulted in Knight being knocked in the head twice. And ultimately the police when it reached the venue at 3.30 AM they had to use Taser guns to break the two groups.

There are reports that Akon was not a part of the huge tussle and had left well before the fight began. Soooo the fearsome Suge Knight’s actually just a law-abiding, pug and not a brutal hoodlum who deserved to be pummeled senselessly.

I really enjoy these rap singers and the others getting into a brawl cos whenever there is something similar to this then the TV ratings for wrestling fight really plummet because such fight are even better – the real street fight kind of thing.

T.I. and Terrence Howard Take Back Chris Brown Comments

After making comments seemingly in support of Chris Brown, rapper TI and actor Terrence Howard are taking back their statements. Both have admitted to speaking insensitively before knowing all the facts surrounding the domestic assault case on Chris Brown after he allegedly hit Rihanna. In his retraction, Terrence said “When they (paparazzi) asked me about Chris Brown the other day, I was in no way aware of what he had been accused of. Had I known, I would have never had said something so insensitive.” TI also said that his comments were out of line because he “made a mistake of commenting before understanding the situation.” Lesson: think before you speak.

Ne-Yo Gets Sued

Fans in the Seattle area were pissed when Ne-Yo failed to show up at a New Year’s Eve event he was supposed to be hosting in a suburb of the Emerald City. Some of those fans paid up to $1200 for a ticket to the soiree. As far as the NYE promoters are concerned, the current king of R&B singer has to fork over some cash for the diss. Ne-Yo’s been hit with a $1.5 million lawsuit by the party planners. If the promoters win, I hope they share the money with the fans who were taken for a ride.

Eminem is Number 1

Even is the single ‘Crack a Bottle’ by the rapping powerhouse trio of Eminem, Dr. Dre and 50 Cent is somewhat of a dud considering the hits they have among them, the song somehow managed to set a new Billboard record for first week download sales. The boring comeback track from Eminem and company is the new #1 song in America as it stole the top spot from the previous opening week record holders, TI and Rihanna. Am I missing something with that song? I just don’t get how it got the top spot. Maybe people just got curious is Eminem is still the same douche bag he was years ago. I bet people will stop caring in a few days.

Details on Rihanna’s Injuries

More updates are coming out about Rihanna’s condition after news broke that she and her boyfriend Chris Brown got into a violent fight early Sunday morning. Reports say that the 20-year old Barbadian babe’s injuries are more acute than previously speculated. As a result of whatever went down between her and Chris that Sunday, the singer suffered two huge contusions on both sides of her forehead, a bloody lip and bloody nose. One law enforcement officer compared Rihanna’s injuries to “an MMA figher or something… [It] looked like she was growing devil’s horns.” That is definitely not good news. Things are getting worse and worse about this.
