Last week, the assets of Death Row records were sold for a disappointing $18 million. The assets included masters of recording by Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg and other rap pioneers. In a way, I bet former Death Row exec Suge Knight must be happy about the bargain sale. He lost the rights to all the assets to bankruptcy in 2006 after one of his former partners, Lydia Harris, sued and won a $107 million case against him. Once all the lawyers, the IRS and other administrators are paid, the money left over won’t be enough to divide among any of the company’s unsecured creditors. The auction winner is a Canadian-based company called Wide Awake Holdings.
