Remaking the 80’s Boy Band
Are you a talent young latino with a voice to match Ricky Martin’s? If so then head on down to Miami, Florida where they are holding auditions for the latest American Idol rip off, “The Road to Menudo.” The show will be airing on MTV as well as their Spanish language affiliate MTV Tr3s. Now, I’m not the greatest reality television aficionado, but I don’t recall MTV hosting one of these kinds of shows before. MTV has been known for the Real World and Road Rules, the early beginning of reality TV, so maybe it isn’t so surprising.
You don’t know who Menudo is? And you call yourself latino? In the 80’s and 90’s Menudo was ‘NSync and the Backstreet Boys only with all latin singers. I suppose with the success of Ugly Betty latino entertainment is making a play for another spot on mainstream media and I wish them all the luck in the world. I actually find this more interesting that the bland American singers that constantly come around my TV screen. Not that I’m going to watch it, mind you. I’m not that interested. I’m still tired of fake reality television with all its gimmicks and tricks. Give me Joe Schmo any day. There at least I knew it was fake.
